Onboarding

Each department of our faculty has a different way of onboarding new lecturers depending on your experience and type of teaching responsibilities. SEEDS is currently putting together an onboarding roadmap to help you get settled as a lecturer or supervisor and find the support you need. Until the roadmap is available, we have compiled a list of tips below.

Tips for beginning lecturers and supervisors

  • Read through the different parts of this Science Teacher platform. The platform contains a lot of handy information that allows you to get an insight into teaching at this faculty.
  • For didactic and technical questions about your course, lectures, workgroups or assessment, you can always contact seeds@science.leindenuniv.nl.
  • For questions about the content of your course, the curriculum, programme-specific rules and regulations and the logistics of your teaching, contact your supervisor and/or programme coordinator and/or programme director.
  • Meet your colleagues and learn from them! You can ask to sit in on a lecture or workgroup to see how others are doing it. Contact lecturers that give courses that run right before or right after your course so you know what you can expect from your students and what those teaching after you should be able to expect.
  • Discuss with your supervisor when you can start working on your UTQ (if you do not have the qualification already).
  • Subscribe to the SEEDS newsletter and join the Teaching@Science community to stay up-to-date about new developments and opportunities.
  • Have a look at workshops and trainings you can follow to work on your didactic skills.
