Assessment matrices
When putting together your assessment, it may be useful to use an assessment matrix. This is a table in which you link the learning objectives to test questions and indicate the weight you give each objective in the assessmentIt is often requested during the (preparation of the) programme accreditation, site visit and midterm review to give insight in the assessment and the constructive alignment of your course. Therefore it might feel as an administrative burden, but creating it will also help you to make sure every learning objective is covered and that you actually test the level of Bloom that you intended. Assessment matrices are required for all forms of assessments, including retakes.
You can use this template [link] to set-up your own assessment matrix in a few steps (check out the instructions tab in the template for more information):
- Fill out the course information
- Fill out your course objectives and select the level of Bloom
- Fill out a matrix for each form of assessment: match the assessment forms and if applicable the questions to the course objectives by filling that cell with an X
Your assessment matrix is ready, but before finalising it: please check if you covered all the objectives with your assessments ànd if they actually match with the intended level of Bloom of your course objectives.
