Leiden University currently uses two types of additional authentication:

• Additional authentication for Office applications (such as Word, OneDrive and Teams), for which you use your university Microsoft account.  
• Additional authentication for applications using Single Sign-On via ULCN.

This information is about this second form, i.e. additional authentication for applications that use Single Sign On via ULCN.

Enable additional authentication

In 'Account Services', go to the tile 'Multi-factor Authentication' to enable additional authentication. There are four different methods:

• The NetIQ Advanced Authentication App. With this app you immediately agree to an authentication request after logging in.
• Another authentication app (Google or Microsoft). This app generates a six-digit code that you enter after logging in in the ULCN registration window.
• A security key such as a Yubikey. The security key generates a login code that is automatically passed on to the login page.
• Your private email address. Have you registered your private email address in Account Services? Then this address is immediately available as an additional factor. You can change the address if necessary under the heading 'Contact information for password recovery'. At this e-mail address you will receive the six-digit code that you must enter in the ULCN registration window after you have logged in.
