Sociaal Fonds OCW
The university participates in the OCW Social Fund. This means that employees of the university can also register as participants. This fund provides financial assistance to participants who find themselves in social difficulties due to financial circumstances.
How does it work?
Applications for assistance are submitted to the board of the Social Fund. The board considers the applications if assistance cannot be provided in any other way. The board alone decides whether assistance can be provided. This assistance takes the form of an interest-free loan or a gift, or a combination of the two. Loans must be repaid. If the board decides that an individual has a complicated debt problem, it will then explore a suitable form of debt assistance.
When can you apply for assistance from the Social Fund?
If you are no longer able to pay your fixed costs, such as your rent and gas, electricity and water bills, as an employee of Leiden University you can apply for assistance from the Social Fund. Even if you already owe money to other institutions, there are options available to you via this route.
Do you want to contribute to this fund?
If you want to contribute to this fund, fill in the application form on the website. The minimum contribution is €2 per month, but you can of course contribute more if you wish; this will enable the fund to help more people. The monthly contribution is then paid via the payroll administration. You can also pay your contribution directly to the fund. Retired Leiden University employees can also continue to participate in the fund.
Holiday allowance
You are entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of your income. Your income consists of your salary supplemented with a number of allowances. For more information on the definition of salary and income, see the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities. The holiday allowance is paid out in May.
If your contract begins or ends in the middle of the year, your holiday allowance will be adjusted pro rata.
End-of-year bonus
You are entitled to an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% of your annual income up to a minimum of € 2250 (based on full-time employment and a full working year). In 2023, the end-of-year bonus is still paid out in December. From 2024, it will be paid out in November.
Please note that in 2024 the end-of-year bonus will be calculated over a period of 11 months. As of 2025, the calculation will once again take place over a 12-month period.
