Lifelong development at Leiden University: learn, develop, grow

Leiden University is committed to the continuous development of alumni and professionals by offering continuing education opportunities, so that they can engage in lifelong development and continue to make a sustainable contribution to their own work environment and society. We do this departing from our own strengths: based on our own research expertise and with our own staff. In this way, we strengthen the connection between science and professional practice and make an important social contribution.

What is lifelong development?

Lifelong development means improving and developing the knowledge and skills to make a sustainable contribution to one's work environment and society. The university is committed to realizing continuing education solutions for and with working professionals.

Why do we offer lifelong development opportunities?

Today's social issues such as climate change, security and health are becoming increasingly complex and require interdisciplinary and innovative approaches in order to reach solutions. Knowledge institutions like our university play an important role in this regard. Through lifelong development opportunities, we interactively share the latest knowledge, insights and methods with professionals who work on these issues every day. The collaboration between professionals and our staff is valuable for our university as well, because it helps to assess the impact of research results and to develop new research ideas. With lifelong development we make an important social contribution and strengthen the connection between science and professional practice. That is why we are working on this, together with social partners, the professional field and other knowledge institutions.
