In order to better prepare PhD candidates for the labour market, the Faculty of Humanities organises an bi-annual PhD Career Event (click here to see the programme of the PhD Career Event 2023, organized in collaboration with the faculties of Social Sciences, Governance and Global Affairs, and Archeology).

The career coaches at the University Career Service can also help you orient yourself towards the job market. This service is only available for employed PhD candidates with the permission of their supervisor and Institute Manager.

Leiden University has a website to help you with your career orientation. The Career Platform is free and accessible for all young researchers. It offers extra online options, like self-reflection test, online courses and inspirational testimonials from alumni. It makes it easy to seek advice, by making an online appointment with a career advisor. Finally, some institutes organise meetings with alumni and other events relating to career guidance. These include work visits to companies and institutions that employ PhD graduates.
