Tool: Remindo, Brightspace Assignments, TurnitIn

With the term summative assessment we refer mainly to “concluding” exams like the midterms, finals, and resits. 

For these exams we recommend using Remindo, the examination software of the Faculty of Humanities. Remindo offers a range of different question types, the option of including audio- or video files, and various security measures to minimize fraudulent behavior. Remindo exams can take place from home, as well as in the USC or elsewhere on the campus.

Another option for summative assessment is Brightspace Assignments (preferably in combination with TurnitIn). The possibilities for this are more limited, but Assignments can be used for e.g. take-home exams.

If you would like students to stay engaged with course materials outside of contact hours, try using Remindo or Brightspace Quizzes for formative exams which students complete before or after a lecture. Hosting in-class, interactive tests or polls during contact hours is possible with Wooclap.

Tool: Brightspace Assignments, TurnitIn, FeedbackFruits, Brightspace Discussions

A written assignment can take many different forms. For a regular essay assignment, checked and graded by the teacher, Brightspace Assignments is the best choice. Combine it with TurnitIn to layer on a plagiarism check. 

Another possibility is to have students check, evaluate or comment on each other’s work using Brightspace Discussions or FeedbackFruits.

Using audio or video for assignments is also possible. Consider, for example, a live presentation with one of the video conferencing tools, or handing in a digital product such as a presentation, podcast, or knowledge clip. This will teach students relevant skills for the labor market. You can have students assess each other’s work using Pitch2Peer or FeedbackFruits.
