Head of Tutorial-Lecturer Team International Studies (0,8 fte)

Starting employment: 1 September 2024

Key responsibilities
The Bachelor Programme International Studies offers a Head of Tutorial-Lecturer Team International Studies position as of 1 September 2024.
The candidate will work in close cooperation with the current head of the tutorial-lecturers team and under the supervision of the Programme Manager. A combination of this position with teaching tasks in the programme is also an option.

Profile of the candidate
We invite applications of candidates who would like to supervise a team of about 20 tutorial lecturers and want to contribute to the teaching organization of the International Studies Programme. International Studies is a dynamic, international environment, with about 1600 students, a large team of tutorial lecturers and even more lecturers who teach in the programme coming from the various Institutes of the Humanities Faculty. Excellent communication and coordination skills are therefore key, as well as excellent leadership capabilities. The successful candidate can demonstrate the following competencies and skills:

  • Completed university education, preferably in the Humanities
  • Experience with an academic working environment and the organization of education
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Connective leadership, managing for results, persuasiveness and organizational sensitivity;
  • A broad grasp and overview of the program in general and of its organisation in particular
  • Ability to find quick practical solutions for unexpected situations that may arise
  • Flexibility, being approachable, and willing to work with the different sections within the programme and the Faculty
  • Being pragmatic, impartial, having a trustworthy disposition, always with an eye on the interests of the Programme

The candidate will perform the following tasks:

HR tasks

  • Supervision of tutorial lecturers (regular informal contact, discuss content of work package, personal development, BTQ guidance, advice on development, feedback on teaching)
  • Holding Annual Performance and development interviews (and Exit interviews)
  • Discussing leave with employees and encourage employees to take leave
  • Onboarding of new colleagues (start interviews)
  • Providing guidance for sick colleagues and organize replacement when necessary
  • Preparation of contracts

Teaching organization

  • Monitoring tutorials and tutorial organization in cooperation with coordinators and initiate improvements
  • Organizing preparatory and evaluation meetings with lecturers and tutorial lecturers
  • Assisting in creating student guidelines
  • Closely cooperating with tutorial lecturer coordinator (about workload, schedules)
  • Bringing new lecturers from the institutes up to speed in regards to the organization of International Studies
  • Organizing training session for tutorial lecturers before the Academic year

Organizational tasks

  • Regularly consulting with the other Head of the Team
  • Organizing team meetings
  • Participating in meetings (with tutorial lecturers, management team, HR)
  • Participating in selection procedures
  • Participating in the organization of activities (e.g. Introduction Days, Experience Days)
  • Participating in the “Vlootschouw”

Terms and conditions
We offer an 0.8 temporary appointment of 12 months, After 12 months this position may lead to a permanent appointment depending on good performance evaluations. The appointment is for 30.4 hours per week. The position corresponds to the position of Afdelingshoofd 2 in the University system of job profiles (UFO). The salary will be €5.247,- with a maximum of €6.737,- corresponding to scale 12 for a full working week in accordance with the collective salary agreement of the Association of Dutch universities (CAO) and depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate is expected to commence employment on 1 September 2024.
