On this webpage, you will find more information about (types of) security, who to ask for advice and where to report incidents.
Leiden University is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for staff members in their work and for students during their studies here. Visitors must also be able to rely on the best possible assurance of their safety and security. We are all responsible for this.
Types of security
Security monitoring and camera surveillance take place in all university buildings and grounds.
All university buildings have security monitoring. Outside office hours, the surveillance is carried out by an external company.
Camera surveillance and video recording are in place in all university buildings and grounds. Stickers and signs indicate where the cameras are located. To find out more about this, please see the ‘Camera surveillance’ webpage.
Advice
You are welcome to contact Leo Harskamp and Jaap van Zaanen for:
- Advice on what to do in threatening situations.
- Advice on security for university events with potential risks (VIPs, political events, large numbers of visitors).
- Questions about physical security or unsafe situations.
- Reporting (potential) incidents.
- Business trips to areas abroad designated as code orange or code red.
- Questions about camera surveillance.
Reporting incidents
For a list of general incidents, please see the ‘Reporting incidents and accidents’ webpage. Reports can be made via that webpage or by sending an email to incident@bb.leidenuniv.nl.
Incidents relating to unacceptable or alarming behaviour, such as threatening behaviour, stalking or sexually transgressive behaviour, should be reported to the relevant department.
The Knowledge Security Advice Desk can help you with misuse or theft of knowledge, ethical problems relating to the use of research results, or undesirable interference that damages our academic freedom.
