This political theory specialisation focuses on the concepts of legitimacy and justice—political philosophy’s core themes. These concepts lie at the heart of questions of politics and analyzing them conceptually and theoretically gives us tools to engage and assess political practice.

Port City Futures is an initiative of the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities collaboration. The program investigates the evolving socio-spatial conditions, use and design of port city regions, in particular exploring areas where port and city activities occur simultaneously and sometimes conflict.

Systematic investigations into religious precepts, worldly rules of law and legal practices in the Muslim world show clearly how these societies deal with justice and injustice. Sharia, the Islamic ‘legal system’, plays an important role in this context.
