
Call for Nominations Now Open β Krijn Rietveld Memorial Awards 2025
The Leiden University Fund and dsm-firmenich are proud to open the call for the Krijn Rietveld Memorial Awards 2025. These annual prizes honour innovative research at the Faculty of Science that contributes to a more sustainable world and has a clear societal impact.
Two awards β one mission: science that matters
π Graduate Societal Impact Award (β¬2,500)
Awarded for the best Masterβs thesis at the Faculty of Science in the fields of life sciences, health science, biotechnology, or environmental health science, with the aim of improving human health or wellbeing.
π For MSc alumni who graduated within the past three years.
π Doctoral Societal Impact Award (β¬3,000)
Awarded for the best published PhD or postdoctoral research with societal relevance, preferably involving a data science component.
π For researchers who are currently working as a PhD student or a postdoc within the faculty.
Procedure and deadline
Potential candidates have been contacted by email and may apply in consultation with their thesis supervisor or promotor. Final nominations should be submitted via the instituteβs Education or Scientific Director.

About the Krijn Rietveld Memorial Awards
The awards honour the legacy of Krijn Rietveld (1956β2018), a Leiden University alumnus and globally respected leader in the life sciences. His work exemplified the importance of societal impact beyond academic achievement β a core value of these awards.
