
Lydia Boer wins incentive prize for bachelor's thesis
History student Lydia Boer has won the Uitgeverij Verloren/Johan de Witt incentive prize. She receives the prize for her bachelor’s thesis The marriage between Johan de Witt and Wendela Bicker: a political affair?
The jury was impressed with Lydia's expert analysis of the marriage between De Witte and Bicker. In their decision, the jury members praised how she placed the dynamics between the parties involved within the historical context, demonstrating a keen understanding of the zeitgeist. The thesis demonstrates a high level of scholarly craftsmanship and the content is complete and carefully crafted content.
About the prize
Every year the Uitgeverij Verloren/Johan de Witt History Prize is awarded to the best bachelor's and/or master's thesis focusing on the Republic of the Netherlands in the seventeenth century. The aim is to stimulate historical research on this important era. The prize winners receive a cash prize of €1,500 and €200 respectively, a book package and one year's membership of the Friends of De Witt Association.
