Impression: kicking off our 450th anniversary celebration!
On 6 January 2025, Leiden Law School celebrated a special milestone: our 450th birthday! Our special anniversary year got underway with a panel discussion with Bonnie Honig, as well as a celebratory toast.
The celebrations began with a fascinating discussion between renowned legal philosopher and democracy theorist Bonnie Honig and a panel of leading scholars, including Ineke Sluiter, Matthew Longo, Jeroen ten Voorde and Bastiaan Rijpkema. Bonnie Honig received an honorary doctorate during Leiden University's Dies Natalis on 7 February after being nominated by Leiden Law School.
During the celebratory toast with staff and students later that afternoon, Dean Suzan Stoter gave an inspirational speech. She emphasised the sense of pride and responsibility that comes with the faculty's rich history. View the photo gallery for an impression of the event:

Suzan Stoter also announced the upcoming 450-talks during her speech: short lectures where ‘our’ own experts share their knowledge and insights. Wim Voermans will launch this series on Monday 10 February by speaking on the topic: het échte huis van Thorbecke.
