Throwback to the Archaeology End of Year Event 2024

Another year has reached its end. And what a year it has been! On December 17th staff and students of the Faculty of Archaeology came together to celebrate and reminisce. The event's central topic was the closure of the 50 year anniversary of the collaboration between the Faculty of Archaeology and the municipality of Oss.

Oss and Field School

Dean Jan Kolen kicked off the event, reflecting back on 2024. He took us back to his personal highlights of the celebrations regarding the 'Year of Oss'. In his speech he also put the staff members that are heavily involved in the organisation of the annual Field School in the spotlights: Richard Jansen, Arjan Louwen, Maaike de Waal, Mark Driessen, Joanne Mol, and Eric Dullaart. Tom Hamburg and Max Koopman from Archol were not forgotten either.

A documentary on Oss

After Jan Kolen's speech, popcorn and sodas were handed out. Time for the next part of the programme: the screening of a new documentary on Oss, made by Evert van Ginkel and Yuri van Koeveringe.

Faculty Pub Quiz

It is definitely nice to sit back and enjoy a beautiful film, but it can't be all fun and games. Or can it? For the next part of the programme colored papers were handed out: it was time for the Big Archaeology Pub Quiz. Staff and students were grilled about commonly and uncommonly known Faculty facts. Quiz Master Martina Revello Lami presented the questions with flair, while master's student Zoë van Litsenburg kept track of the score. The audience was divided in two groups, each represented by a small committee of staff and students.

Time for the drinks and burgers

After the Pub Quiz burgers were being served. Aside from the regular Faculty Drinks, a cozy corner was created to enjoy glühwein and other treats.

During the drinks the attendees were also invited to take a look at the most recent publication in the Inter-Section series, featuring articles by Archaeology students who wrote publication-worty papers and theses.
