Onboarding New Employees: Lightning-Fast Faculty Introduction

A tour, presentations, drinks, and a quiz: new employees were warmly welcomed at the first faculty onboarding session. On a Thursday afternoon, they got to know the faculty.

New staff who arrived shortly after three o'clock at the meeting point in the Herta Mohr building were in for a pleasant surprise. The dean, Mark Rutgers, who happened to be just passing by, immediately took time to meet the new faces.

Campus Tour

Afterwards, project manager Carola Koetsier led a campus tour. During the tour, employees learned about the sustainability of the Herta Mohr building and the coming renovation of Cluster Noord, as well as practical matters such as the Humanities Hub and the availability of lactation rooms in each building. The tour ended with a look at the various labs of the new Humanities Hub, where the new staff can record podcasts and videos, as well as do various experiments.

Developing Research

The scientific content was delivered through a presentation by university senior lecturer Angus Mol, who showed how his research on play has developed over the years. 'I thought it was very interesting,' said PhD candidate Lisa Lenferink, who has been conducting research at LUCAS since September on the university library's medieval manuscript collection from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. 'I signed up to get a better understanding of the organisation and the people working here. It's nice to see what research other people are doing.'

Drinks and Quiz

After a convivial drinks reception, more practical faculty matters were addressed in the form of a quiz (what is the new dean's name?) and an HR presentation. 'This brought together the two sides of the university really well,' said Christely Verheuvel, marketing officer for master's programmes. 'The mini-lecture on research and the interactive HR quiz nicely demonstrated how research and support complement each other.'

New onboardings sessions will be held at 27 March 2025 en 30 October 2025.
