Mees Vergouwen wins Mitchell B. Carroll Prize

Mees Vergouwen was awarded the Mitchell B. Carroll Prize by the International Fiscal Association (IFA) on 28 October 2024. The tax specialist won the prize for his thesis on conflicting tax rules.

After completing his doctorate in 2023, Dr Vergouwen has remained at Leiden University teaching tax law. He is only the third person from the Netherlands since 1948 to win the prize, Irene Burgers (1992) and Gijs Fibbe (2009) being the other recipients.

The prestigious prize is awarded annually by IFA's international jury to encourage scholarly research on international tax issues. A cash prize of €5000 is presented to the winner. Vergouwen received the prize on 28 October during the 2024 IFA Congress in Cape Town. He was also previously awarded the
