ERC Safe & Sound Project attends WE ROBOT Europe and presents paper on Science for Robot Policy

The ERC Safe & Sound project attended the first edition of WE ROBOT in Europe, on 17 October 2024 in Berlin. During the conference, speakers and participants from academia, policy bodies and industry discussed and shared their thoughts on robotics regulation in the EU and the US. Further, in a paper presentation at the conference, Mohammed Raiz Shaffique (PhD Candidate) represented the Safe & Sound project to present the draft working paper on Science for Robot Policy in the EU.

The presentation emphasized how the EU's evidence-based decision-making framework seeks to incorporate scientific knowledge into regulatory processes, highlighting the importance of this approach in the field of service robotics as well. Raiz also collected the participants views on service robotics regulation through a survey and engaged in interactions with the attendants on the challenges associated with regulating such fast-paced technologies.
