Leiden University & Elsevier Symposium on AI and Academic Publishing

Artificial Intelligence is likely to have far-reaching consequences for all actors in the realm of academic publishing, including authors, editors, researchers, and readers. This symposium aims to foster the conversation about the various ways in which we evaluate, enrich, and disseminate academic knowledge, against the backdrop of continuous advances in the field of AI.

AI-powered systems may be applied to enhance the efficiency of peer review processes, to improve the findability of academic literature, or to help researchers to generate hypotheses within impactful areas of scholarship. AI-driven innovation can simultaneously also pose serious risks, however. How can the academic community protect the integrity and the trustworthiness of scholarly output when papers and data can convincingly be faked by generative AI? How can authors ensure that their works are not being used by tech companies to train Large Language Models, without their prior consent?

Attendance is free, but registration is mandatory. Please register before Monday 4 November 2024.

This symposium is organized in partnership with Elsevier.
