LUC's Marco Cinelli wins EURO Award with decision analysis paper
Marco Cinelli from Leiden University College (LUC) and the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) was awarded the 2024 EURO Award for the Best EJOR Paper at the European Conference on Operational Research in Copenhagen.
Marco Cinelli, along with co-authors Miłosz Kadziński, Grzegorz Miebs, Michael Gonzalez, and Roman Słowiński, was recognised in July for their paper titled Recommending Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis Methods with a New Taxonomy-Based Decision Support System. The paper was awarded in the Theory and Methodology category.
The award is given for papers published in the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR). From over 1,200 papers published in 2022 and 2023, a shortlist was created based on citation counts and download numbers. A jury of five evaluated these papers and selected the winner through a consensus process.
Paper summary:
The award-winning paper introduces a software tool called The Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis Methods Selection Software (MCDA-MSS). This free software, available at MCDA-MSS, helps decision analysts choose the best methods for a wide range of decision-making problems, from simple to complex.
The MCDA-MSS software serves two main purposes:
- Learning Framework: It helps analysts understand a structured approach to complex decision-making.
- Method Selection: It guides analysts in choosing the most appropriate MCDA methods for specific decision-making challenges.
Why MCDA-MSS is important
With hundreds of MCDA methods now available, selecting the right one for a given problem can be challenging. The software addresses the question: 'Which MCDA method (or methods) is most suitable for a particular decision-making problem?'
