Alicia Schrikker wins the Euro Cup prediction competition of the Institute for History
During the summer, a sizzling battle for the first place in the European Championship pool took place at the Institute for History. A total of 63 football fans and other competitive colleagues played along in June and July in the hope of winning a medal.
After a long summer holiday, the prize winners were finally honored during the annual Indonesian buffet on the occasion of the opening of the academic year on September 3.
Lionel Laborie and Claire Weeda won the bronze and silver medals respectively and received their medals from Diederik Smit with a broad smile. The big winner of the pool was Alicia Schrikker. After receiving her gold medal, she admitted in front of all her colleagues that she had cheated: it was not she, but her son who had filled in the pool! She herself had participated under the name of another colleague* and had thus deceived everyone.
Despite the initial bewilderment among colleagues after this revelation, Alicia after showing remorse received the championship cup from Scientific Director Jeroen Duindam, and she was loudly cheered on. In her winner's speech, she expressed her gratitude to her son. His knowledge and expertise had led to this victory. The gold medal is coming his way, she confided to the editors.
