Ready for the digital future: The Humanities Hub
The future is digital. That is why the new Humanities Hub will soon open its doors in the Johan Huizinga building. This Hub brings together a number of innovative labs that are in line with the development of the new Humanities Campus, the SSH labs, the vision of Humanities in a Digital World and the goals in the Faculty Strategic Plan, and Leiden University’s digitisation strategy.
The modern digital infrastructure of the Humanities Hub is essential for research into the digital world. Moreover, the faculty wants all students to graduate digitally and media literate, reflecting the flexible role of humanities in society, now and in the future. Labs will be available to lecturers, researchers and students after the summer.
The Labs
The Humanities Hub includes the Digital Skills Lab, the Digital Lab of LUCDH, podcast and video rooms, AI Lab, Makers Lab for 3D printing and the Journalism Lab. In addition to the physical labs, the Hub offers extensive support to help researchers and teachers integrate digital skills into teaching and research. The Humanities Hub will be the central hub where the coordination of facilities and the teaching of digital skills come together.
Planning
The labs are currently being set up in the Huizinga building. The official opening will take place after the summer, and both staff and students of the Faculty of Humanities are welcome. In the coming weeks, a webpage will be made available where explanations about the labs and support can be found, as well as information about workshops you can attend and how to book a lab.
