Petra Sijpesteijn elected Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences
In its session of 15 April 2024, the Austrian Academy of Sciences elected professor Petra Sijpesteijn as one of its new Corresponding Members.
The Austrian Academy of Sciences was founded in 1847 and plays a central role in academic research in Austria. Its 22 institutes cover all fields of scientific research, including the study of ancient and non-European history and culture. The Austrian National Library in Vienna is home to one of the largest collections of papyri in the world and is especially well known for its extensive holdings of Arabic, Coptic and Greek papyri from Late Antique and early Islamic Egypt, one of the core areas of expertise of Petra Sijpesteijn.
