The Student Living Room: one year on

Time really does fly: it’s one year since the Student Living Room was officially opened! Masterminded by the Student Support team, this initiative soon took centre stage as the place for students to come together, relax and enjoy a well-earned break from their studies.

Events

The past academic year was filled with exciting events that helped promote diversity and inclusion at the faculty. The Marie-José Event inspired students to think about their futures as trainee lawyers, while the Bridges Network Event offered a unique perspective on diversity within the legal profession by sharing the experiences of top lawyers with bicultural backgrounds. A weekly Boardgame Night was also introduced, allowing international students to improve their Dutch while playing games at the Taalcafé (‘Language café).

More initiatives

As well as organising events, the Student Support team has actively promoted diversity and inclusion within the faculty. Leiden Law School was proud to be the university’s first faculty to offer free menstrual products in its toilets. Students can also use the Acts of Kindness pillar to ask for and offer each other help. These initiatives mark an significant step towards equal access and student well-being.

Student Support

Peer Support students have been on hand every weekday between 12.00 and 14.00 in the Student Living Room to answer questions or simply have a chat. These students have also been active within the faculty outside of these hours. For example, during Student for a Day events they informed prospective students about the various support options available at the faculty.

Future events

The next academic year promises to be another great one, with lots of events in the calendar relating to student well-being, diversity and inclusion!

For those who aren’t quite done for this year, the KUB tournament is scheduled for Thursday 13 June in collaboration with IncLUsion. Drop by the Student Living Room for more information about this event.
