Renovation news PdlC
Over the next few years, the Pieter de la Court building will be refurbished. This summer, the first to be tackled is the basement. What will happen?
- The labs (on the side) will be completely renovated
- There are to be two new large lecture halls in the education part (A part)
- The self-study room (the open area with green chairs in the basement) will be freshened up and will have more glass, and therefore more daylight.
- The renovation may cause some noise disturbance, especially during the demolition work in June/July.
- For the purpose of sustainability, materials and equipment (furniture, equipment, etc.) will be reused.
Work will start in the week of 3 June. The teaching part of the basement is expected to be ready before the start of the new academic year, the research part is expected to be ready by the end of 2024.
During the renovation, the labs and lecture halls in the basement will not be accessible and/or usable. Teaching or other activities scheduled during that period are (or will be) moved to other locations in the PdlC or, in some cases, to the Gorlaeus. However, SC.01, the rooms of the study associations and the toilets in the basement will remain accessible.
And after that? Once the basement is ready, the ground floor and first floor will be further developed. Possibly as early as 2024, and continuing in 2025. More on this later.
