Niek Kijk in de Vegte wins the Suzanne Hovinga Award 2023
During the LACDR Fall Symposium, Niek Kijk in de Vegte received the annual Suzanne Hovinga Award for the best master thesis. Niek performed his RP1 research under the supervision of Dr. Natalia Ortiz Zacarias and Prof.dr. Laura Heitman in the Molecular Pharmacology group at the Division of Drug Discovery & Safety.
Niek´s research involved elucidating the fate of CC Chemokine Receptor 2 (CCR2) upon stimulation with different agonists and identification of key intracellular residues. This year we received 8 applications for the Suzanne Hovinga Award from Biopharmaceutical Sciences master students that received an 8.5 or higher for their thesis. The jury agreed that Niek’s thesis was very well-structured and written, with clearly presented results and a high quality discussion.
