ERA4Health grants for Bram Slütter, Amanda Foks and Ilze Bot

Recently, Bram Slütter, Amanda Foks and Ilze Bot all individually obtained an ERA4Health research grant from the CARDINNOV 2023 program. In this program, which is co-funded by the EU and in the Netherlands by ZonMW, 17 consortia consisting of 3-5 European academic partners were selected for funding to develop innovative therapeutic strategies in cardiovascular disease, with a total budget of almost 19 million Euros.

Leading the ReNewAthero consortium, Bram will develop a new class of mRNA based tolerogenic vaccines to treat atherosclerosis. In this consortium he will collaborate with Prof. Dan Peer (Tel Aviv University, Israel) and Prof. Xavier Bossuyt (Leuven University, Belgium), who are leading experts in the fields of mRNA formulation and proteomics, respectively.

As member of the MARGINALIZE-MI consortium, Amanda will develop together with Prof.dr. Jean-Sébastien Silvestre (INSERM, France), Prof.dr. Christoph Binder (Medical University of Vienna, Austria) and Prof.dr. Almudena Ramiro (CNIC, Spain), highly innovative immunomodulatory approaches to target a specific B cell subtype, marginal zone B cells, to improve cardiac repair after myocardial infarction and prevent adverse remodeling and heart failure.

Ilze receives this grant for her MASTer project, which she will lead. Together with prof. Guido de Meyer from Antwerp University (Belgium) and prof. Florent Ginhoux from INSERM Institute Gustave Roussy (France), she will investigate the contribution of mast cells to microvessel leakage in advanced atherosclerosis and target the underlying processes to limit atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
