First Tuesday Talks is a fact: 'It's nice to learn something from another field'
He had been back from Australia for less than 48 hours, but there was no sign of that. Michel Mandjes of MI had the honor of kicking off the very first Tuesday Talks: Science Insights on Tuesday. He did so with a presentation on complex networks.
'Previously, I was also a regular at This Week's Discoveries and I am glad that this phenomenon has been revived,' said Irene Groot of the LIC. 'For next time, I hope even more people come, because it's nice to learn something from another field.' Michelle Willebrands of the LION couldn't agree more. 'It's inspiring to see how all kinds of disciplines come together here.'
'We can learn a lot from each other'
For a few attendees, the concept was new, including University Council member Victor van der Horst. 'I only knew the lunch lectures of the student associations, so a whole new world is opening up for me.' Yet Van der Horst already sees the added value of Tuesday Talks. 'The strength of our faculty is that we have many institutes. So we can learn an enormous amount from each other.' He hopes for a next time that more students will also be able to find their way to Tuesday Talks. 'It's not just about the lecture, but also the drinks afterwards.'

About Tuesday Talks: Science Insights
During the monthly Tuesday Talks, the successor to This Week's Discoveries', a researcher gives a presentation that is open to our entire community. The afternoon ends with an informal get-together where staff, students and other curious people can have a drink and catch up with each other.
