Tour of the South Cluster attracts more than 100 interested colleagues
The South Cluster - the former Van Wijkplaats/Van Eyckhof on Witte Singel - is currently undergoing an impressive transformation. On 25 October, more than 100 enthusiastic colleagues witnessed the progress of the renovation during a series of tours of the building.
Employees were shown the entrance hall, library, teaching rooms and a number of office and meeting rooms. The striking columns from the original buildings and the former wooden ceilings which are now incorporated into the wall coverings were clearly visible to visitors. See photos below to get an impression of what the building now looks like.
Planning refurbishment
The completion of the South Cluster was scheduled for 1 February. However, unforeseen circumstances, such as a delay in the delivery of the facade, have impacted the completion of the renovation. As a result, the completion of the South Cluster will be later; the current planning is March 2024.
Once the building has been completed, the contractor will finish the remaining items and the major cleaning of the building will take place. After that, a start will be made on the interior layout (audiovisual installations, sun control and shading, furniture). It is expected that the first occupants (the Faculty Office and KITLV) will be able to continue their activities in Cluster South from April onwards.
The building will then be occupied in stages in 2024. Finally, the Middle Eastern Library and IIAS will move after the summer. From September 2024, the lecture halls will also be in use.
The floor plans below show the layout of the new building.
