Survey on annual interview launched
Starting this academic year, the regular Performance and Development interview (ROG) has for academic staff been replaced by an annual interview. A survey will be held in early December to evaluate this pilot.
The new annual interview focuses more on development than on results. Cooperation has become more important and personal leadership and feedback (giving and receiving) also play a greater role. In this way, we create more opportunities to recognise and value everyone's contribution and invest in the further development of our staff.
The reactions to this new approach are generally positive, but there are at times also doubts. To identify how the annual appraisal can be improved even further, a survey will be circulated in early December, which you can return by 31 December at a time that suits you.
We are conducting the evaluation to improve the annual interview, not only for the Faculty of Humanities but for the whole university. Your responses will contribute significantly to the success of this pilot and will be used to further shape our recognition and rewards initiatives. The outcome of the survey, together with the evaluation of two other pilots (at Student and Education Affairs and the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences), should lead to further refinement of the new format for the annual interview, so that it can be implemented university-wide during 2024.
For supervisors:
We have organised a number of workshops so that you can familiarise yourself with the way annual interviews are conducted. These workshops explain what will be different in the new annual appraisal. What is key? And how do you translate that into the interview? You will learn how you, as a manager, can stimulate the employees' own self-motivation by listening differently and asking questions with an open and receptive attitude. Attention will also be paid to how you express recognition, give constructive feedback and make your assessment. There is still space for supervisors in the workshop to be held on Tuesday 12 December from 13.00 to 15.30. Participants' experiences so far have been positive. If you would like to participate, please email m.j.sluijs@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
You can also contact her or your institute's HR adviser with any questions about the annual interview.
