COI stakeholder meeting 2023 on governmental problem-solving and implications for legitimacy

On November 30, 2023, the research group Institutions for Conflict Resolution (COI) organized a stakeholder meeting on governmental problem-solving and its implications for legitimacy. COI is a joint collaboration between the Universities of Leiden, Utrecht, and Nijmegen as part of the Dutch Sector Plan Law. The aim of the annual stakeholder meetings is to foster exchange between legal science and legal practice.

The meeting on November 30 focused on the (perceived) lack of problem-solving capacities of the government and the resulting trend that more and more societally sensitive issues are ending up before the courts. We reflected on the implications of this trend for political and judicial legitimacy. Speakers were Henk Naves (chair of the Dutch Council for the Judiciary), Joost Sneller (member of Parliament, D66), Jelle Klaas (litigation director NJCM and lawyer at PILP) and various PhD candidates within the Institutions for Conflict Resolution research group. The stakeholders meeting took place in Dutch. Below you will find an overview of the full program.
