eLaw at Lawtomation Days at IE University
On 29 September 2023, Carlotta Rigotti and Eduard Fosch-Villaronga participated in the Lawtomation Days at the IE University. They presented the preliminary findings of desk and empirical research on fairness of AI applications in the labour market that had been conducted for the Horizon Europe BIAS project.
By combining a scoping literature review with qualitative research in gender studies, labour studies, law, and computer science, Carlotta and Eduard critically analysed the current state-of-the-art of fairness of AI applications in the labour market. This work was part of the Horizon Europe BIAS project. Of particular significance was examining procedural fairness and establishing a bridge between legal, ethical, and social requirements and technical methodologies.
This interdisciplinary approach opened new avenues for creating a harmonious relationship between the law and alternative measures in defining and designing trustworthy AI systems, such as the Debiaser, namely the innovative technology aimed at identifying and mitigating diversity bias of AI applications in the labour market the BIAS Consortium plans to design as the final outcome of its project implementation.
Your voice matters!
We would like to invite you to take our survey on discrimination, exclusion, and marginalisation of workers that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the labour market can sometimes cause.
