Successful launch of Liber Amicorum in honour of Marco Bronckers
On Friday 2 June 2023, the Europa Institute launched the Liber Amicorum – “The EU and the WTO: Ever the Twain Shall Meet” – in honour of Marco Bronckers. To mark the special occasion, a panel discussion on five major challenges facing the EU and the WTO in the next fifty years was held.
For twenty-five years, Marco Bronckers held a position as professor of WTO and European Union Law at Leiden University. On Friday 2 June, book contributors, friends, students, and colleagues gathered in the Cleveringazaal to celebrate Professor Bronckers’ immense contribution to Leiden Law School and to launch the Liber Amicorum put together in his honour.
In advance of the event, Professor Bronckers put together five “stellingen”, predicting five major future challenges facing the WTO or the EU, and offering proposals on how each challenge may be addressed. A panel of five Leiden Law School-affiliated academics – dr. Anna-Alexandra Marhold; Hiroki Yamada; dr. Aleydis Nissen; Daniela Gomez Altamirano; dr. Joris Larik – each offered a perspective on one of the “stellingen”, to which Professor Bronckers provided a response. Following these concise, bilateral discussions, the floor was open to an audience Q&A moderated by prof. Freya Baetens.
Finally, the event was closed with the official handover of the Liber Amicorum.
