Carlijn Lems wins the Suzanne Hovinga Award 2020-2021

During the LACDR Fall Symposium the Suzanne Hovinga Award for ‘best master thesis’ was awarded to Carlijn Lems for her master thesis entitled ‘Elucidating the crosstalk between epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and Programmed Death-Ligand 1: validation and extension of a computational model’. Carlijn investigated the interplay between EMT and IFNγ-induced PD-L1 mediated immunosuppression and provides evidence for its role in facilitating tumor immunoevasion, at the division of Drug Discovery and Safety under the supervision of Gerhard Burger and Dr. Joost Beltman.

We received 7 applications for the Suzanne Hovinga Award from Biopharmaceutical Sciences master students that performed their RP1 or RP2 internships during the academic period of 2020-2021 and were graded an 8.5 or higher for their thesis. The jury selected Carlijn Lems for her excellent, well-written report with an impressive amount of data and beautiful visuals. Congratulations Carlijn!
