A new look for the Huizinga garden
A lot of green, corners to sit in and paths to stroll along. These were the wishes for the restyling of the garden of the Huizinga building. After some forty years, it was time to give the garden a facelift. The result is a welcoming, green garden with sunny spots and shaded nooks.
The design of the new garden retains as many trees as possible. The pyramid, a work of art by Cornelis Rogge, was removed and in its place, new green areas have been laid out. Working closely together with the artist and the Stichting Onterfd Goed, a new location has been found for the pyramid: it will first be restored and then displayed in the municipality of Waalwijk. The plant boxes that were left over will also have a new home, at a healthcare centre.
What is there to see in the new garden? A pergola where you can sit in the shade, a lot of new seating areas, a whole range of beautiful perennial plants. The water lilies from the old ponds have been reused, as have the old tiles. It is an animal-friendly garden, with plants for butterflies and insects, and hopefully also for birds that will come to the water features.
