Nivja de Jong listed among 2% most influential scientists

Professor Nivja de Jong has been included in the list of most influential scientists by Elsevier Data Repository. This list of scientists with the highest impact is compiled annually based on citations. De Jong appears on the annual list for the third consecutive time.

De Jong's response

De Jong: 'It's very flattering to be on that list, but I am of course aware that lists aren't everything (I conduct research from a privileged position, there's a Western bias, etc.). But as a colleague said, "If you are on it, it's certainly not nothing."’

The reason I'm on that list is probably because my linguistic and language teaching research has been noticed and cited by researchers from many different scientific fields over the years. My own field, second language acquisition and language education, is naturally among them. But articles are also cited within adjacent fields such as automatic speech recognition and the newest kids-on-the-block AI and LLMs. Even researchers from fields like clinical psychology, public administration, and neurology appear to benefit from the linguistic and language teaching research that I've been able to conduct and publish. Knowledge about language is rather important, I'd like to casually mention given the current climate of impending budget cuts.'
