Insurances
As an employee of Leiden University, you are eligible to take out various insurance (schemes) at an attractive discount:
- Health insurance (the collective health insurance scheme offered by Leiden University and Zorg en Zekerheid).
- Work-related travel insurance. Employees going on business trips can make use of the University’s collective travel insurance scheme.
- (Supplementary) work disability insurance (the collective health insurance scheme offered by Leiden University and Loyalis).
- ANW shortfall insurance. This insurance provides financial security for your partner in the event of your death.
ABP pension accrual
If you receive a salary from Leiden University, you automatically accrue pension with the Algemeen Burgerlijk Pensioenfonds (ABP). You can supplement your pension with ABP for more financial freedom in your old age. Or you can, under specific conditions, save money via your ABP pension fund to supplement your retirement pension.

Unemployment
Does your contract with Leiden University end? If you found a new job or your employment is terminated, there are a number of things to consider.
Are you looking for a new job? You may be entitled to unemployment benefits under the Unemployment Act (Werkloosheidswet, WW). You may also be eligible for supplementary unemployment benefits (Bovenwettelijke werkloosheidsuitkering, BWNU). We offer you various kinds of support in finding a new job.
