Leiden University is committed to making your work safe, healthy and enjoyable.
A healthier living and working environment
Leiden Healthy University aims to promote a working environment where staff and students can do their jobs responsibly, healthily and in positive surroundings, and where they can achieve their potential. Our Healthy University has joined the international network of Health Promoting Universities.
What can we do to ensure we work (at home) in a healthy and responsible way? The university has put together some tips and tools to help you.

Work pressure is still high in the whole organisation. The Work pressure toolkit – of which membership of the Healthy Universities network is just one small part – will help resolve this problem.
Healthy University Leiden consists of a taskforce, focus group and seminars.
What can you do?
- Get moving at USC
Did you know you can get discounted membership of the University Sports Centre? The USC also offers special vitality programmes for faculties and units or departments, which is a good way to find out more about the wide range of sport and well-being options. - Take advantage of the Terms of Employment Individual Choices Model
If you cycle to work, or if you’re looking to exercise at Sportcity or in the University sports centre, you could get a partial refund through the Terms of Employment Individual Choices Model.
- Make an appointment with a career coach
Do you have any questions about your career or personal development? Then make an appointment with a career coach to discuss your options. - Take a course with Learning & Development
Why not take a time management or Plan your PhD course for example? - Benefit from discounts on preventative courses with Zorg & Zekerheid
Leiden University’s collective health insurance scheme, Zorg & Zekerheid, offers both basic and supplementary insurance at an attractive discount. Make your choice from the range of preventative courses, treatments and discounts on vitality, well-being and your workplace. Some services are available free of charge or are covered by the supplementary insurance policy.
