Teaching East Asian Languages (TEAL): Challenges, Ideas and Innovations
TEAL events take place throughout the academic year

East Asian (EA) studies thrive in LIAS, often involving interdisciplinary and cross-regional research. As a vital component of EA studies, Teaching East Asian Languages (TEAL) involves navigating shared linguistic, cultural, and socio-regional characteristics, and will benefit from fostering integrated efforts. To address shared challenges, language teachers in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) studies have proposed to organize TEAL Workshops—a space designed not as a formal “conference” but as a lively, interactive gathering for sharing ideas in both TEAL pedagogy and research.
What to expect:
- Engaging talks on interesting and timely topics in teaching practice and research.
- Open discussions on shared challenges, lessons learned, creative teaching ideas, and confusing-but-interesting questions.
Organizing committee:
Ae Ree Nam, Jin Hee Park, Eline Sikkema, Ying-ting Wang, Zhaole Yang, and Keiko Yoshioka.
