Are you thinking about studying at a university college and are you wondering what studying at Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) is like? Would you like to delve a bit deeper into our programme and have a first hand experience of a sample class? Then make sure to join us for our Experience Day!
The day is crafted for those students who want to experience the programme, so the emphasis is on exactly that: joining a sample class, chatting with our staff and students and exploring the campus. We will also include a general information session, but the main focus there will be on Q&A. We recommend that you join an open day session before coming to the experience day, or if that is not possible, to check out some of LUC's videos on instagram (listed on the right hand side).
Meet our Staff and Students!
A panel made up of students, staff and alumni are eager to connect with you, present about our academic curriculum, our programme and students' experiences. Choose a sample lecture and join a class with one of our professors. During the Q&A there is lots of room for your questions.
The programme
This is the tentative programme for the day. Please note that small programme changes may occur, but the event generally will take place in the afternoon, and always includes at least one sample class, information market and campus tour.

Classroom: 3.04
At LUC you will study global challenges and you will learn that many of these challenges can be found in your own new backyard. Even though The Netherlands is a wealthy welfare state, and the city of The Hague prosperous, people here struggle with homelessness, unemployment, religious intolerance, food insecurity, gentrification, to name but a few. In professor Caroline Archambault’s Global Citizen course/project (“Struggle in the City”), students are guided in serious game and simulation design, with the aim of promoting recognition, empathy, and outreach of local struggles. In this session she invites you to demo some selected student creations to give you a firsthand experience of what it is like to be a student at LUC.
Classroom: 2.14
Investigative Journalism is dedicated to uncovering wrongdoing and abuses of power, exposing hidden trends, and explaining poorly understood patterns in society. Acting independently of academia, business, politics, and law enforcement, investigative journalists play a crucial role in fostering a culture of accountability. With democracy and transparency under constant threat, the need to understand this field has never been greater. This sample lesson will include a mini-case study of a recent investigative report that had a significant impact in Dutch society.
Classroom: 3.03
The recent IPPC reports tell us – again – that climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time and will affect modern human life globally. Locally extreme climate events such as droughts and storms already pose serious challenges to society – also here in the Netherlands. In this class we will discuss the pros and cons of several adaptation strategies to reduce extreme weather risks, such as geoengineering and nature-based solutions.
