Threats such as natural disasters, sabotage and cyber attacks also have more complex consequences. Increasingly, these incidents affect both ‘safety’ (non-intentional threats) and ‘security’ (intentional threats) risks, which calls for an integrated approach to crisis management. At industrial sites, such as BRZO/Seveso-regulated companies, similar threats can even lead to so-called ‘domino effects’: chain reactions of incidents due to safety and security threats that reinforce each other and lead to disastrous consequences.
On Tuesday 20 May 2025, Leiden University will organize a symposium on the Hague campus where researchers and professionals will come together to use how these integrated risks can be better reduced in policy and practice. The symposium takes place in the framework of the EU-LIFE funded SecurDomino project (LIFE20 ENV/IT/000436), carried out in collaboration with, among others, Università di Pisa, Crisisplan BV, environmental services and industrial partners.
More information about the project can be found on the website of SecurDomino.
