Abstract
In this event, Guangzhou-based artist, filmmaker and publisher Qin Dao will introduce his practice. His practice often unfolds under the umbrellas of On Kino - a self-claimed film theatre, and On Analogue - On Kino’s video equivalent, both operating in his own living room. Taking a media archaeology approach towards rare, obsolete and lost films on 8mm, 8.75mm, 16mm, 35mm and VHS, with a focus on material from the 1960s to 1990s, On Kino and On Analogue summon marginalised memories of these eras and reimagine their afterlives through Qin Dao's distinctive forms of collection, archiving, exhibition and publication.
Biography
Qin Dao, living in Guangzhou, is the founder of On Kino and On Analog. He works based on film prints , woodcut prints and reproducible videotapes. He conducts film screenings, publications and exhibitions, and excavates neglected and abandoned film archives. At the same time, digital moving images that have a direct relationship with the present are also within the scope of his work.
