Abstract
This is a work-in-progress meeting to discuss a review article about knowledge and Empire. The article traces historiography about the entanglement of science (knowledge) and Empire, it discusses new directions for histories of science that include (formerly) colonized regions, and it looks at discussions about how today’s institutions and history-writing can be decolonized.
Speaker
Fenneke Sysling is a historian of science, medicine and Dutch colonialism at the Institute for History. At the moment, she runs two projects: one on colonial medicine, experimentation and ethics in Southeast Asia and one on hidden labour and Indonesian knowledge in Dutch colonial science. She also has an interest in the history of race and in museum collections.
