Are you a lecturer, study adviser or student counsellor? Or do you have a lot of contact with students in your work? Mark Tuesday 25 March 2025 in your calendar for the Staff Symposium on Student Well-being. This year’s theme is ‘Today's Students’. Together, we’ll explore how to better respond to the changing needs of students.
What to expect?
A day full of inspiration and fresh insights! We’ll kick off with a keynote by Emma Agricola, founder of Inclusyoung, titled ‘From Boomer to Zoomer’. Emma will delve into the generational differences at Leiden University, showing how every generation adds its unique value. She’ll focus on Gen Z: what drives them, and how can we better understand and support them? With scientific insights and practical tips, you’ll learn how to collaborate more effectively with both students and colleagues from different generations.

- Alcohol and substance use: recognising and starting conversations
- The power of storytelling: building well-being through a diversity card game
- Building bridges: having meaningful conversations about sensitive topics
- Creative expression as a tool for improved well-being
Registration for the workshops will take place on the day of the event. The workshop contents and trainers will be announced in mid-February.
Panel discussion: challenges and insights
We’ll close the day with an interactive panel discussion featuring students and student support staff. Together, we’ll explore the biggest challenges faced by ‘Today's Students’ – from performance pressure and social media to mental health and generational differences. What can we learn from each other? How can we build an environment where students truly thrive?
Alongside the keynotes, you will also be able to take part in interactive workshops on topical themes and will have plenty of time to share experiences with colleagues from other faculties or departments. You will leave at the end of the day with insights you can immediately apply to your work.
