This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first United Nations World Conference on Women (Mexico City, 1975), a process that led to the creation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995). The Global Transformations and Governance Challenges Programme is organising a roundtable to reflect on prospects for global women's rights today, particularly amidst geopolitical shifts and tensions, heightened nationalism and populism. As ever, our panel will assemble perspectives from different disciplines and faculties. Panelists and further information will be confirmed in the following weeks.
Meet the panel
- Prof. dr. Helen Duffy is an experienced praticing international lawyer and a Professor of International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at the Grotius Centre. Her research areas includes strategic human rights litigation, counter-terrorism, climate justice, human rights in armed conflict (interplay of human rights and humanitarian law), judicial independence and non-state actors
- Dr. Diana Dávila Gordillo is an Assistant Professor of Comparative Politics at Leiden University; her research and teaching lie at the intersection of representation, identity, ethnicity, and institutions, with Latin America as her regional focus.
- Dr. Daniela Vicherat Mattar convenes the Culture, History and Society major. Trained as a sociologist, her research focuses on cities, citizenship and, more recently, care.
These sessions are an opportunity for researchers from across the university to present their work to a group of interested colleagues and students. Moderated by GTGC staff members and led by a chosen discussant, the setting allows for valuable interdisciplinary interaction, discussion and feedback.
