The next Environmental Humanities LU talk will be given by Petra van Dam, professor of water and environmental history at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), who will talk about her latest project on drinking water in the early modern Netherlands and what we can learn from historical forms of water management.
In the early modern period, water use in the Netherlands was carefully differentiated by type and purpose. This historical system of water management, shaped by scarcity and widely diverging local conditions, offers insights that could inform modern approaches to sustainable water provisioning amid increasing droughts.
