Leren met de Stad (Learning with the City) is an educational innovation project in Leiden and a collaboration between Leiden University, Leiden University of Applied Sciences, secondary vocational and technical schools, the municipality and social organisations. Throughout the last semester, students worked on pressing social issues together with the citizens of Leiden.

MboRijnland students went to neighbourhoods in Leiden to help make rental properties more energy-efficient. Law students from the University of Applied Sciences conducted research on a digital platform for Een Goede Buur (a good neighbour) and on how to prevent financial exploitation of elderly citizens. Criminology students at Leiden University conducted research on intimidation on the streets and fear of crime in Leiden. Jelle Brands, assistant professor at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology, will explain more about this project at the opening of the exhibition.

Since 4 February 2025, this innovative and inspiring exhibition has been on tour across Leiden. The students from the various educational institutions display their research, projects and creative solutions for the city using exhibition blocks they designed themselves. Discover which city partners were involved in the projects from various disciplines and meet our colleagues to see how we set to work in the city!
