In recent years, the conflict-solving and problem-solving capacity of the legal system has become high on the political, scientific and social agenda. The central question is to what extent law can provide citizens with adequate solutions to their legal conflicts and problems. Are citizens given sufficient assistance to be able to act adequately in legal disputes, processes and procedures and do citizens also have sufficient access to those procedures? How can conflicts be prevented? Are their interests adequately represented in court and in out-of-court processes, and to what extent can law and judges also offer solutions to the problems that citizens and society are confronted with? The Institutions for Conflict Resolution (CoI) research group of the Universities of Leiden, Utrecht and Nijmegen has examined these questions over the past five years and will present its findings during this conference.
The conference will take place in Dutch.
