The power of Game-Based Learning (GBL), or learning through play, is increasingly well recognized, especially for 21st century learners. Educators are keen on integrating GBL into their curricula, but to make games effective they have to be tailored to the learning objectives and the learners. Such adapted games often don’t exist and educators are left with the daunting and costly task to design their own. In an effort to make GBL more accessible and inclusive Caroline Archambault has incorporated the stage of game design itself into the pedagogical fold, allowing learners themselves to design the game. They will learn through design: Game-Design-Based Learning.
“Game of Games” is a low cost, low-tech, rapid, training tool in game design for anyone (10years+) to design learning games around any learning objectives and in any learning setting. The method is designed to confront the main obstacles facing amateur designers: creative obstruction by game histories, confidence, and resistance to co-creation.
In this workshop you will play Game of Games and design a game as well as learn how to run your own design sessions with students, colleagues or friends and family.
