Dear Leiden Immersive Tech community, teachers, researchers, PhD students, support staff, management, policy makers, decision makers, and enthusiasts,
We are thrilled to announce that the second edition of Leiden University’s Immersive Tech Day will be taking place on the 30th of January 2025 in the Sylvius Building and SSH labs. This year, in addition to being joined by many of our colleagues from across Leiden University, we will also have the pleasure of welcoming representatives from Npuls, SURF, Luris, Una Europa, and Media & Learning to share with us their insights into the Immersive Tech ecosystem. We would love to have you with us!
Packed with presentations, workshops, and demos, this event will focalise getting hands-on with the technology, showcasing some of the most innovative work taking place across Leiden University, and, crucially, spotlighting several opportunities when it comes to community, support, and funding for innovative projects and technologies.
Why?
In light of the challenges currently being faced across the higher education sector, it is understandable that many may fear for the future. Through this event, however, we aim to create a sense of justifiable hope regarding the continued use and support of Immersive Technology in education here in the Netherlands.
Across the day, there will be multiple opportunities to raise questions, discuss, meet with those (both internal and external) offering support, and become inspired by fascinating projects and initiatives which not only exist, but continue to make significant and considerable progress.
For those with projects already completed or underway, this event offers a fantastic platform to gain exposure, insight, and feedback from other professionals across the field. For those still questioning whether to take the Immersive Tech plunge, satisfy your curiosity whether in relation to development, logistics, academic research, or ethics.
What can you expect?
While our event in January 2024 celebrated ‘New Beginnings’, ‘Expanding Horizons’ in 2025 builds upon the progress already made, focusing upon the technology’s ever-evolving nature as well as the potential for broadening our scope here at Leiden University.
With this in mind, the following topics will feature prominently within the several workshops, demos, and presentations on offer:
-
Funding (nationally and at European level)
-
Responsible Immersive Tech within a Dutch context
-
Legality & legal rights (Luris)
-
Immersive Tech in education communities (XR LU, XR ERA, SURF, Npuls, Media & Learning)
-
Research on both a local and national level
