8 April – University broad event

Accompanied by a nice cup of coffee from The Bar Company, you will start the afternoon from 12.00 - 12.30. After, you can participate in one or more rounds of workshops and make use of the services in the lounge where professional CV and LinkedIn checkers and a photographer will be waiting for you. Costs for this afternoon are 3 EURO.
Register quickly, as there are a limited number of places available.

Workshops 8 April - Round 1: 12:30-14:00 hrs.

Negotiation skills – Fieke Harinck by PLNT students

Dr. Fieke Harinck studied Social Psychology, got a PhD in negotiation and worked 22 years as an Assistant Professor at Leiden University. Since September 2023, she is an independent trainer and coach in the field of negotiation and communication.
In this workshop you will learn Harvard Negotiation principles to make the best of your negotiations and how you can create win-win agreements that are good for you and for the other party.

Discover your qualities – Judith Hoogmoed, Career Services

Do you want to discover your qualities and potential to excel in in a professional setting? Then join us for this workshop, designed to help you identify your unique strengths and communicate them with confidence to others, for example in the context of a job interview. This workshop is an interactive session during which we will discuss a number of methods and tools to provide you with a better understanding of your strengths, and how you can apply these in your future career. Some preparation is required for this workshop (you will receive further instructions about a week in advance).

Networking - Maud Alberts, Alumnibureau

Do you get nervous thinking about networking? Are you thinking of people wearing suits, formal settings and awkward conversations? Then this workshop might change your view of what networking is and how you can prepare yourself for it.

This interactive workshop consists of three parts. First we will discuss our experience with networking; what do you think networking looks like, do you have a network already, and what do we expect from having a ‘good’ network?

Second, we will have elevator pitch exercise. You learn about the elements of a good first impression when it comes to networking and/or job interviews/opportunities. Step by step you create your own pitch which you can use when you are at a network event, a job/internship interview, or when you meet somebody that you want to connect with professionally. If we have time, we’ll do a network bingo or Live LinkedIn.

Lastly, the Mentor Network of Leiden University will be introduced. This platform can best be described as LinkedIn with a 100% response rate. Hundreds of Leiden alumni in the working field are willing to help students and recent graduates with all of their questions. Whether you have questions about internships, professional development, career paths or a specific company, our mentors are there to help.

Career Stress, how can I deal with that pressure? – Eva van der Meer, Career Services

Sometimes it feels like everyone around you has finished three internships, two masters and had time left to do volunteer work in the summers. In short, everybody seems to be more prepared than you to start that first job. Of course this isn’t true, but it can be the source of a stressful feeling. In this workshop we will talk about the origin of the stress and you will learn how to deal better with this pressure. We will also define what your first step can be to start looking for that graduate job, internship or project.
